Jet Edge, Inc., a leading manufacturer of ultra-high pressure industrial water jet systems for precision cutting, coating removal and surface preparation, has announced the opening of its new water jet sales, service and showroom office in Shanghai, China.

Jet Edge’s China office will allow the Minnesota USA-based manufacturer to directly supply and support local customers with service and training facilities, a water jet equipment demonstration showroom, and a water jet parts warehouse.

Okuma America Corporation now equips all THINC®-OSP controlled machines with the new Constant CARE remote troubleshooting and monitoring software as a standard feature.
Constant CARE allows the machine, with the push of a button, to connect via the internet to an Okuma service professional. The remote connectivity allows a service engineer to diagnose and troubleshoot problems or issues with the machine, decreasing service times by providing accurate and real-time information. Some issues can be diagnosed and fixed without the need for an on-site service call. If the diagnosis determines that an on-site service call is required, intelligent dispatch ensures that the service engineer arrives with advance knowledge of the problem, its solution and the necessary parts in-hand.
Machines can be connected on an “as-needed” basis or in “always-on” mode, depending on how the manufacturer chooses to operate. When connected in “always-on” mode, machines can be monitored to provide proactive alerts and regular status alerts, improving information gathering and sharing and decision making.
Okuma machines with the THINC-OSP P200 control shipped prior to January 1, 2010 can be upgraded with the Constant CARE software.
Live interaction between the machine operator and Okuma service engineers improves response time, decreases downtime and reduces service costs.

Mazak will debut a new format for its Discover Mazak series of events, the first of which will be Discover Mazak - Midwest to be held at the Midwest Regional Headquarters and Technology Center in Schaumburg, Illinois on March 15-17, with an additional Student Day following on March 18. The innovative new format incorporates several interactive and customizable options to allow guests to maximize the value they obtain while attending.
Rather than featuring large, classroom-style seminars, the 2011 Discover Mazak - Midwest event will allow attendees to participate in small group discussions on a wide range of topics. An expert from Mazak or one of the company’s VIP technology partners will lead each group, providing background information and fostering discussion on specific challenges faced by participants. Subjects covered by these interactive learning sessions include but are not limited to online training, the Five Levels of Multi-Tasking, bringing manufacturing work back to the United States and exposing manufacturing myths.
“We’ve held Discover Mazak events throughout the country and received tremendous feedback about the value they provide to manufacturers,” says Brian Papke, President of Mazak Corporation. “The new features that we’re incorporating in this latest event reflect our commitment to helping attendees deal with the real-life challenges they face in their operations and providing them with relevant and timely information that can help increase throughput and shorten production lead times. Discover Mazak - Midwest will also feature the inaugural round of March Mazatrol Madness programming challenges, held in the morning and afternoon every day of the event. Competitors will face off, with one group programming a milling process and the other working on a turning process. The fastest participant in each heat will receive an Apple® iPad®.

Joining Technologies, an innovator in laser cladding, electron beam, and laser welding applications, is playing a key role in the Connecticut Corsair project, a volunteer effort aimed at restoring Connecticut’s official state aircraft, the F4U Corsair.
Flown extensively during WWII, the F4U Corsair was the first U.S. military single-engine aircraft to fly faster than 400 mph. The Connecticut Corsair project is restoring a plane built in 1945 and sold as scrap metal by the U.S. Navy in 1957. Joining Technologies’ laser equipment is helping to recreate, remanufacture, and restore parts once considered unsalvageable. SolidWorks is also used in this re-engineering effort.
